Moot Meetings, seasonal Ritual Celebration & Ancient Site Clearances

Moot Meetings

Due to the sad & sudden death of Eileen Herzberg, who ran Chy Gwella where we held the moots, the Penwith Moot is moving to a new venue. It is quite a change, as the moot has been going to Chy Gwella for over 8 years now. The moot will now be at The Stella Maris Centre, behind Healing Star at the top of Causewayhead, Penzance. It is easy to find and is next door to the car park, so has excellent access. The time and day remain the same, namely 7.15 every second Tuesday of the month.

Moot meetings offer the opportunity for socialising with other local Pagans, to find out about local Pagan news, up coming events, 'what's on' & the discussion of a different Pagan topic each month. The topic for the next meeting can be found on the DATES page.

Moot Rituals

The moot holds open ritual celebrations for each of the eight seasonal festivals: Imbolc, Spring Equinox, Beltane, Midsummer, Lammas, Autumn Equinox, Samhain and Yule.

What is Open Ritual?

Open rituals & closed or 'coven' rituals are very different in approach. Unlike closed ritual where a small and close-knit group work to raise powers for practical ends, open rituals are simply where people come together for the celebration of the seasonal rhythms at the year's turning points by ritually enacting traditional seasonal themes. As serious power raising for a specific magical goal is not the purpose of open ritual we do not cast 'coven' style circles of protection but instead we form our circle by naming ourselves to each other and to the spirits of place to connect with the land and with each other. it's all about community.

For many people who want to experience seasonal ritual with other people without necessarily becoming part of a closed group or when just starting out on a Pagan path, open moot rituals offer the only opportunity for them to do this and as such these open rituals do a very important job and the Penwith Pagan moot is very proud to offer such gatherings to the Local Pagan community which continue to be enjoyed by many. Both open & closed ways of working have their place and both are equally valid. Many people who belong to closed groups & covens also enjoy coming together with their local Pagan community to celebrate the turning of the year's wheel with their local moot.

For a listing of our ritual dates for the year please see the DATES page. More specific details about each ritual will be posted on the NEWS page aprox 15 days before each ritual.
